Vote for best satellite image of Earth under threat of global warming

The 4th edition of the international competition "Seize the beauty of our Planet" organized by CloudFerro, a provider and operator of European platforms with access to the Copernicus Earth observation data, unveils breathtaking satellite images illustrating the profound effects of global warming. The initiative is captivating the global audience's attention with its mission to underscore the vital role of remote sensing technologies and satellite data in protecting the environment. The competition has now entered the phase of an online voting that anyone is welcome to join. Voting is open until noon on November 3rd.

Since 2020, the "Seize the beauty of our Planet" competition has gathered remote sensing experts and space technology enthusiasts. The competition's motto, "Together for COOL Earth!" resonates with the collective determination to combat the ongoing climate crisis. However, "Seize the beauty of our Planet" is not just a competition – it is a convergence of science and art with the aim to raise awareness about global warming and inspire actions to mitigate climate change. The competition's calendar, which garners global attention in space sector institutions, fosters an enduring commitment to Earth's ecosystem protection through its visual appeal.

This year, "Seize the beauty of our planet" has received entries from participants from 14 countries, including Sri Lanka, Portugal, Guatemala, France, Poland, India, Italy, and Norway. The images presented by the entrants capture the full spectrum of the climate crisis, from the most devastating imagery of massive floods and uncontrollable fires to the profound changes like intensifying droughts, melting glaciers, or river pollution. The entries this year feature iconic locations such as the Amazon River at its lowest level in history, extreme floods and wildfires in Greece, the aftermath of the flood in Italy, ongoing drought due to the lack of rainy seasons in Ethiopia, flash floods in Death Valley, the vanishing Carteret Island in Papua New Guinea, melting glaciers in Greenland, and the paralyzed Panama Canal traffic resulting from low water levels caused by El Niño and climate change.

Internet voting will remain open until noon on November 3rd, allowing everyone to select up to three favourite entries. The 13 images with the highest number of votes will proceed to the second stage, where a distinguished Jury of Earth Observation experts will choose the top three. The authors of the three best images will be awarded with attractive prizes, including an Apple iPad, a 27" LED Monitor, and Apple AirPods headphones. In addition, all 13 winners will receive a CloudFerro calendar for 2024, which will be distributed among leading institutions, companies and organisations in the Earth Observation sector.
